How to Mow Your Lawn Properly

Are you fantasising about having the perfect lawn? Now you do not have to live in that fantasy. You can have that beautiful lawn by mowing the grass properly. This simple upkeep can make a huge difference in the look of your garden. Here are some guidelines on proper mowing.

First, make sure you have the right equipment for the task. For lawns that have an area of 8,000 square feet or less, use a manual reel mower. For larger yards or tall grasses, a gas-powered rotary mower is your best option. Keep the blades of your machines clean for clean, even cuts. Before mowing, you need to remove obstacles such as garden toys, rocks, water hoses, tree branches, and other debris that can snag or damage your machine's blades. For safety, wear protective goggles and gloves.

Mow your lawn early in the morning to avoid the day's heat. Also, do not do the task after a heavy rain because mowing would become more difficult. Wet clippings will stick to the machine instead of falling back on the ground. To save time, use a proper pattern by mowing in overlapping horizontal or vertical lines, not in circles or spirals. If you come across a hill or any elevated position, mow across the area, never up and down. It is also advisable to change directions every couple of weeks to produce a more natural appearance. Finally, avoid fixed objects in the yard such as decorative boulders, lawn furniture, water faucets, and automated sprinkler systems. If you need to cut the grass that is surrounding these objects, use a weed cutter, manual trimmers, or clippers.
